According to the Belarusian National Bank, the main influence on the growth of bank’s problem assets subject to credit risk is provided by the country’s state-owned enterprises, as reported in the analytical review Financial Stability in the Republic of Belarus in 2017. Thus, the volume of state-owned enterprises’ problem assets reached 3,2 billion Belarusian rubles at the beginning of the present year, having increased by 0,1 billion within a year, the share of problem assets of the banking sector made up 58%. “In this regard, the risks posed by troubled state enterprises in the real sector of the economy are a potential threat to financial stability in the country”, the National Bank states. According to the results of current assessments, the share of all state enterprises’ liabilities – the major credit borrowers, amounted to 14% in relation to the country’s GDP.
